【破产新闻】Prestige Appliance bankruptcy sale begins Saturday in Aiken

Jan 5, 2018

The Prestige Appliance bankruptcy liquidation sale starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6.

The sale begins at two locations: the Prestige Appliance showroom, at 2575 Whiskey Road, and the Prestige Appliance warehouse, at 300 Northland Blvd. Both are in Aiken.

Prestige Appliance filed for bankruptcy Sept. 7, 2017, according to court records. The 6,000 square-foot showroom opened in 2009. The store's closure upset some city residents and former customers, who later said they felt misled.

Another liquidation sale begins in Columbia on Jan. 9 at 3905 Fernandina Road.

All sale locations will run seven-days-a-week for six weeks or until everything is sold, according to Bill Melvin, owner of Liquid Asset Partners, the court-approved company that is handling the liquidation. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.

Melvin said the Aiken warehouse location has a "majority" – he estimated it to be 66 percent – of the inventory. Up for grabs, he added, are "real high-end brands."

Melvin said Viking, Wolf and Frigidaire are just some of the name brands available. There's approximately $2 million of goods up for grabs. The highest-end stove, Melvin said, could cost $12,000.

"Prestige was a high-end retailer of high-end appliances," Melvin said Friday afternoon. He later said "intermediate-level inventory that is a little more mainstream" is also for sale.

Items will be discounted more the longer they go unsold.

Liquid Asset Partners was hired by bankruptcy trustee Janet Haigler, an attorney in the Columbia area. Melvin said his company has handled countless sales like the one about to start.

"It'll be exciting," he said. "Everything must be sold."
